Caregiving is truly a selfless act of service. This year, more than ever, we have witnessed these acts from frontline caregivers that have allowed people to stay in place and protect their health, while still receiving the care services that they depend on. Caregiving can take on many forms: from a kind neighbor who stops by with essentials – groceries, facemasks, hand soap, or toilet paper, to the husband who cares for his wife of 60 years at home while she suffers from increasing memory loss and decreased mobility. There are also many outstanding folks who are paid caregivers. These are the ones who aren’t bound by a sense of family obligation, but out of a deep sense of calling and compassion to care for others. They are not family by birth, but often become “family” and trusted sources of human connection to those they faithfully serve, especially during a pandemic. Caregivers, in all their forms, are a lifeline. They often sacrifice their time, energy, money, and even their own health, out of dedication to their loved ones or clients. Caregivers do what they do because it makes them feel good and fulfills their purpose to make a difference in someone else’s life.
Senior Action Network would like to recognize and celebrate caregivers in Thurston, Mason & Lewis Counties. We are seeking nominations for caregivers who exemplify the definition of what being a caregiver truly means. All nominees will be honored with recognition in this year’s 20th Annual Outstanding Caregiver Awards, to be announced the week of October 26, 2020. While there will not be a large gathering or celebration dinner with all the nominees this year, they will still receive their awards, prizes, and much deserved recognition. Let’s show the caregivers in our community that we SEE THEIR DEDICATION and we honor their COMPASSION.
Do you know someone you’d like to nominate? We will be recognizing caregivers from all categories: volunteer/unpaid caregivers (not family), unpaid family caregivers, paid caregivers working in a facility (such as Assisted Living, Memory Care, Skilled Nursing Home, Hospital, Adult Family Home, Retirement/Independent Living facility, etc), and paid caregivers providing in-home care (home care, home health agencies, hospice agencies, independently contracted caregivers, etc). Nominations will be accepted now through Monday, September 21, 2020. For more information, or to nominate a caregiver, fill out this form online or download, print and return this PDF form to SAN.
